Transvestites are men who wear women's clothing and often admire and imitate women, but identify themselves as different from both gay and transsexual men, and generally deny having fetishistic intentions. Cross-dressing (and here we refer particularly to men who disguise themselves as women) has tended to have a bad reputation. The idea that a man enjoys wearing a pair of tights has traditionally been viewed as ridiculous, regrettable and simply sinister. It was generally assumed that a marriage would almost certainly end the day the wife found her husband in his underwear; and that a manager would lose all authority if his colleagues knew his enthusiasm for mascara and lipstick.
From this perspective, cross-dressing seems like an admission of failure. Rather than living up to an ideal of strength, robustness and pure “normality”, a man eager to wear a dress is considered a deviant from a particularly alarming type. Usually, a man who dresses as a woman is called a transvestite. Crossdressing usually begins at an early age and, although gay men and transgender people are known to do so, many transvestite men are heterosexual and don't want to change their gender.
She doesn't say anything about my use of women's clothing, shorts and has even bought me shorts and panties to sleep on for women.
